| New FDA endorsement of Oats in the fight against Heart Disease and certain Cancers
Health claim In August 1999, the FDA in the U.S. issued a further endorsement of oats. It authorized a new claim that will allow companies to promote the benefits of whole grains in relation to heart disease and certain cancers. It indicated that diets that are rich in whole grains, such as oats, may reduce the risk of these conditions. Wholegrain Oats and Type 2 Diabetes A new study recently published in the American Journal of Public Health indicated that eating oatmeal (a whole grain cereal) on a regular basis can help reduce the risk of type 2 (adult onset) diabetes. |
