McCann’s® Irish Oatmeal Announces Non-GMO Certification

McCann’s Irish Oatmeal, maker of the finest Irish oatmeal since the 1800s, announced at the 2015 Summer Fancy Food Show that it has earned its first Non-GMO Certification from the Non-GMO Project for three of its core products-Quick & Easy Cooking Box, Quick & Easy Canister and Traditional Tin.

The Non-GMO Project engages in independent verification for products made according to best practices for GMO (“genetically modified organisms”) avoidance. The Non-GMO food segment is projected to grow 13 percent in the next five years and could account for 30 percent of retail sales by 2017*.

“The demand for Non-GMO products continues to rise because more people desire healthier, less processed foods and, therefore, want full transparency on what is in the products they are consuming,” said Thomas Perlstein, Director-Branded Marketing, Bay Valley Foods, LLC (a TreeHouse Foods company). “McCann’s Irish Oatmeal continues to uphold the core principals of its Irish brand heritage: trust, purity, craftsmanship and dependability. Therefore, with the Non-GMO certification, consumers can trust that we aspire to ensure the best farm and mill practices.”

McCann’s Irish Oatmeal is produced using a number of best practices that not only supported its efforts to reach Non-GMO certification, but also instill consumer confidence in its products. Among these best practices are:

  • Oats are sourced from hand-selected, small farmers (40-80 acres); the small-size fields add to consistently high-oat quality
  • All parts of the Argonomy Program designed specifically for the McCann’s brand are inspected by personnel from leading performance nutrition and ingredients group, Glanbia (http://www.glanbia.com/)
  • All the oats grown are delivered green (un-dried) from the combine to the intake; all trailers are cleaned prior to harvest
  • Production of McCann’s Irish Oatmeal is not outsourced to a third-party drying facility

McCann’s Classic Steel Cut Irish Oatmeal—available in its traditional tin—embodies rich texture and nutty flavor that is uniquely McCann’s. Made from 100 percent whole grain Irish oats, it contains all the vitamins and nutrients that further processing may remove. McCann’s Quick and Easy—available in a cooking box or canister form—has all the whole grain goodness of McCann’s Classic Steel Cut Irish Oatmeal but cooks in just five minutes. The three McCann’s Irish Oatmeal products with Non-GMO certification will begin rolling out this July. Pricing and SKUs will remain the same.
